Tour Overview

Mount Vesuvius offers stunning backdrops as you explore seven exceptional archaeological sites. From your base in Minori, you'll begin your discoveries in Pozzuoli. At its well-preserved Roman amphitheatre you can follow in the footsteps of the gladiators who would do bloody battle here. You'll then experience the archaeological park of Baia and take in the incredible ruins at Cumae. The doomed city of Pompeii then offers remarkable sightseeing as you stroll down its incredibly preserved streets. Uncover the three magnificent Doric temples at Paestum and the historic Villa Poppaea at Oplontis, where the Roman art you'll see looks as good as new! Next is the site of Herculaneum, which was also buried in ash by Mount Vesuvius's 79 AD eruption, and you've option to visit the chic island of Capri.

Itinerary

Day 1 UK - Naples

Today you fly to Naples, from where we'll transfer you to the charming town of Minori.

Next day

Day 2 Pozzuoli, Baia & Cumae

A day of contrasts awaits you on an included tour, which begins at Pozzuoli. Here you can follow in the footsteps of gladiators as you wander the maze of underground tunnels beneath its well-preserved Roman amphitheatre. In its heyday, this arena held crowds of up to 20,000 people.
Next stop is Baia for a visit at the Archaeological Park of Terme Romane.
Your final stop is Cumae, where only ruins remain of the Greek temples that once stood here. The Cave of Sibyl and the Temple of Jupiter are incredible sights nonetheless.

Next day

Day 3 Pompeii

Today is the day that you will explore the remarkable ruins of Pompeii. As you wander its streets, you'll understand what life was like here before Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD smothering it and its inhabitants in hot ash. On your full-day tour, you'll see many of Pompeii’s best sights, including villas decorated with frescoes, colourful mosaics, Roman baths, an impressive amphitheatre and more.

Next day

Day 4 Paestum

Before you reach historic Paestum today, a treat is in store in the shape of the beautiful Amalfi Coast. At your journey's end you'll discover three magnificent Doric temples. It's incredible to think that 2,500 years after they were built, the temples of Ceres, Neptune and Hera are still standing relatively intact. There's time too to step inside the museum here, which houses fascinating artefacts.

Day 5 Oplontis & Herculaneum

Today, your Local Guide will host a further day of exploration. Villa Poppaea at Oplontis was so well preserved by the ash from Mount Vesuvius' eruption that the Roman art inside almost looks freshly painted. Nearby, we'll head to Herculaneum, which was also buried by the same eruption. It's actually better preserved than Pompeii, and your Tour Lecturer will talk you through its highlights and outline the lives of its well-heeled former residents.

Day 6 Minori - at Leisure

Today is free for you to spend at leisure. You could choose to explore Minori at your own pace.
Alternatively, join our full-day optional excursion to the glamorous island of Capri, which is reached via a short boat trip. As you explore independently you'll soon see why so many have been charmed by its beauty over time, from Roman Emperors and poets to movie stars and artists. You could choose to take a stroll around the village of Capri and perhaps hop into one of the open-top taxis for a journey along winding streets to Anacapri. Here you can visit Villa San Michele, the former home of celebrated doctor and philanthropist Axel Munthe, which is surrounded by fragrant gardens.

Day 7 Minori - at Leisure

End your holiday with some time to yourself. You could relax in the hotel or explore the surrounding area. Meals included: B,D

Sail to the enchanting island of Capri, which has been a haunt of the international jet set for many decades. It also charmed a Roman emperor or two in its time. You can still see the ruins of Tiberius’ magnificent Villa Jovis and admire views from the cliffs over which he is said to have thrown his enemies!

A Local Guide will show you the highlights and you will also enjoy some free time. You might like to visit the wonderful Gardens of Augustus, where you’ll find colourful terraces filled with flowers. In Anacapri, you can visit the Villa San Michele, former home of celebrated doctor and philanthropist Axel Munthe, or take the chairlift to the highest point on the island.

Deposit information

When you book a holiday, you will be asked to pay a deposit, this will be made clear at the time of booking. In most cases we will charge the following deposit amount;

  • European Holidays - £200 Per person
  • Worldwide Holidays - £250 or 10% whichever is the greater
  • Ocean Cruises - £250 or 10% whichever is the greater

On some holidays we may charge a slightly higher deposit, to cover any costs we have to pay immediately to secure your booking with our suppliers. This will be made clear at the time of booking.

If you choose a tour that is within 84 days of departure you will need to pay the full balance when you book.

Our cancellation policy

If you decide to cancel your confirmed booking you must notify us (or your travel agent) in writing, as soon as possible. Since we incur costs in cancelling your arrangements, you will have to pay the applicable cancellation charges up to the maximum shown below.

  • More than 75 days before departure - Loss of deposit only
  • 43 - 74 days - 50% of tour price
  • 29 - 42 days - 75% of tour price
  • 15 - 28 days - 90% of tour price
  • Day of Departure - 14 days - 100% of tour price
